Training intensity is important when working out to reach your goal. How do you achieve and maintain your training intensity?

As personal trainers and athletes ourselves, we do not just train to look good but we do more functional work and training which helps to carry over to our daily lives and also sports. Our training consists of not just strength training but plyometrics, cardio, agility and mobility training. Depending on which phase of our training programme we are at, we vary our training intensity accordingly. Ensuring to give our best in each of our sessions is key to reaching our fitness goals.

How do I find what drives me to exercise?

We have been training from a young age and thus, exercising has become habitual to us. There are times when we do not have the motivation to train but we remind ourselves that we are personal trainers and that we have to set good examples for our clients. This helps to create a drive in us to get our workout done each time. We also jot down specific fitness goals we want to achieve by the end of each year which also keeps us disciplined to workout.

How can I enjoy my favourite foods while still achieving my fitness goals?

We always tell our clients that they can still enjoy good food and still be on track in achieving their fitness goals. You can make small dietary changes step by step instead of a complete switch to what you currently consume. For example, if you are eating a lot of sweet food currently in your diet, you can reduce the amount slowly instead of completely avoiding it. Having one or two cheat meals a week is not very detrimental to your fitness goals and you can still enjoy your favorite foods.

I can’t seem to stick to diets. How can I eat better to achieve my
fitness goals?

You can follow the 80/20 rule whereby 80% of what you are consuming has to be nutrient-dense food and the other 20% can allow yourself to enjoy whatever you like. Also, finding healthier and delicious alternatives will allow you to stick to your diet and make you have lesser cravings. For example, if you love to binge on sweet stuff, you can opt for fruits which are healthier options.

Initially, I was very skeptical of going to the gym due to feeling intimidated. That was when I
approached GI Fitness to help me out. They were very understanding and we had our first few
sessions at the nearby fitness corner. From there, I gained the confidence to slowly start training
at the gym. Now, I can independently workout by myself at the gym with the knowledge and
confidence that I have gained from the sessions I had with GI Fitness. - Ashley
